Skin Picking Treatment
Skin Picking Question?
I have been skin picking and chewing the insides of my cheeks for years. Lately I’ve been under a great deal or stress and have always had bad anxiety and depression. My skin picking is becoming out of control. I have sores on my face, neck, back, arms, legs, stomach, etc. I can sit and do this for hours. My question is, is this such a big deal or is it something I should mention to my doctor? I have an unrelated appointment tomorrow and was wondering if I should mention this. I dont want her to wonder why I brought it up cause it’s not a big deal OR for her to think I’m nuts…. What causes a person to do this? Is it anxiety related? And is it a big deal? What is treatment?
It’s definitely something to bring up with your doctor. I have severe anxiety and I pick at my fingers.
What you are doing is either a way to cope with your anxiety or as my doctor has told me, that mine
is a very slight ocd behavior.
Once something becomes hard to control or is out of control, it is absolutely time to talk to your doctor.
I am on an antidepressant medication and also anti-anxiety medication.
It does help and you might want to keep an open mind about it. By all means talk to your doctor about this, the final decision is yours.
